Passion week is the week between Palm Sunday and Easter. It begins when Jesus entered Jerusalem and ends with His resurrection. It is called passion week, because it displays the passion with which Jesus went to the cross on our behalf.
One of my favorite verses in the Bible concerning Jesus' death is Hebrews 12:2, "looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God." The joy that was set before Him was not the cross, it was us. God's greatest desire, the motive behind all He does, is to have a personal relationship with man. This was the purpose of the cross. The joy set before Jesus was the personal relationship the cross would allow Him to have with us. Jesus did not have to go too the cross. He chose to go to the cross for you. As passion week approaches, remember that God wants a close and personal relationship with you so much that He endured the cross.
